The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent condition, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

Rudyard Kipling is a masterpiece of historical biography which was completed about 1950. Regrettably, the Kipling heirs forbade its publication until 1977. Birkenhead's book takes us back to the late 1800s, when England ruled the world and her last frontier was India. Kipling defined that world to itself, shaped our language and gave our grandparents, however ephemerally, some conception of themselves. Kipling's genius surmounts the criticism of his detractors, and we come to understand and appreciate one of the most influential men of letters in the last 100 years.
