Richard N. Frye

Richard N. Frye, Aga Kahn Professor of Iranian at Harvard University, is well known as one of the world's lead- ing authorities in his field. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1920, he holds a B.A. from the University of Illinois, and both an M.A. and a Ph.D. from Harvard University. He has also studied at Princeton University, the University of London, and the University of Tehran. A member of Harvard's faculty since 1948, Professor Frye is the author and editor of a number of works on Near and Middle East history and has lectured and published articles in many languages including Russian, French, German, as well as Persian. He has lived in Iran and Afghanistan.
