Not an author in his own right, Vennema nonetheless is listed as co-author on several books written and illustrated by his wife Diane Stanley. Insightful, diligent in his research, and an informed editor, Vennema earned the listing of author for books such as Cleopatra, Bard of Avon, and Charles Dickens. All of Vennema and Stanley's biographies have received numerous awards because of the couple's combined ability to make people and issues intriguing and less complicated for younger readers. Former residents of Houston, Texas, Vennema and Stanley now live in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
