The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent shape, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

Who would expect that a bear, even a special sort of bear like Paddington, would win a prize in a most professional bicycle race like the Tour de France? One minute dear old Paddington had been sitting quietly along the road on his self-repaired tricycle checking the marmalade sandwiches in his bike basket, when before he knew it he was caught up in a whirlpool of speeding bicycles, shouting spectators, and ringing bicycle bells. As he headed downhill at a frightening clip the pedals on his bike were going round so fast that he quickly lifted his feet to his handlebars in case his legs fell off! Off speeds Paddington on another adventure.

The Brown family should have known that it spelled disaster when they put Paddington in charge of maps and the itinerary for their vacation in France, for as Paddington fans well know, despite all his good intentions this little bear has a special knack for making havoc of the most innocent situations. In this latest of Paddington adventures he gets him- self into one delightful scrape after another.

As Mrs. Bird says, however, that's the best of being a bear. Things happen to bears—and the wonderfully amusing and startling things that happen to Paddington in Michael Bond's latest book prove that with Paddington abroad one had better watch out!

It includes these stories:

  1. Paddington Prepares – Mr Brown announces a holiday in France.
  2. A Visit to the Bank – A misunderstanding causes uproar at the bank.
  3. Trouble at the Airport – Airport officials suspect Paddington is traveling without a passport.
  4. Paddington Saves the Day – The Browns' car gets a puncture and Mr Brown organizes an al-fresco meal.
  5. Paddington and the "Pardon" – Paddington takes part in a local festival.
  6. A Spot of Fishing – The Browns and Paddington go on a fishing trip and get marooned.
  7. Paddington Takes to the Road – Paddington participates in the Tour de France.
