Our King Has Horns

The entire kingdom is singing this ditty. But how can the people know? Only the king's barbers have seen his horns, and all have been imprisoned after giving the royal haircut – all, that is, but one. This clever barber has saved himself from prison. Can he now save his head from the block?

An old Georgian folktale is the source of this story about the persistent nature of truth. Retold with grace and wit by Richard Pevear, it is illustrated handsomely by Robert Rayevsky, who renders faithfully the time and place of the tale's origin.
