Do you want to cry? Because this is a book that will make you cry. I loved it as a kid. I grew up watching the Disney movie, which does surprising justice to the book. Every boy needs a dog, especially an Old Yeller. It's an excellent coming of age story in the American frontier. There are morals and lessons that the author tells in such a way that they stick with you. The boys in my class especailly connected with it, but decades later I occasionally find myself wanting to reread it.
