Summer Reading Challenge Winners!

We're impressed. We made the reading challenge even tougher this year (and the prizes harder to reach) and still everyone stepped up to the challenge. We had a total of 623 kids signed up, and 438 completed the basic 5 book minimum.

We also added a couple of other challenges that would stretch kids in different directions. For reading comprehension, we added the review contest. We were blown away by over 500 student reviews! Eleven kids won a $5 gift certificate as part of the contest. You can see the winners and read their reviews on this page.

We had 223 first and second graders complete the minimum challenge; their challenge was to read 35 books. Over 80 made it to that goal, and 36 read more than fifty books!

There were 180 kids in third to sixth grade, who were challenged to read 25 books. 86 pulled that off, and 26 also read more than fifty titles.

For grades 7-12, we had 72 students whose goal was to read 5000 pages. 28 met the goal with 2 kids knocking out more than 15,000 pages . . . Amazing!

Gift certificates will be emailed out ASAP!

The big prizes this year were awarded by random giveaway per grade, and reading the most books really did make a difference! Here are the 12 random drawing winners.

37 kids braved our intentionally tough genre challenge. They read books in all different genres and completed the tasks to reach the status of legendary adventurer (grades 1-2) or genre legend (grades 3-12). Here they are:

Of course, the true winners aren't the kids who read the most, but those who were able to branch out and read fun books they may not have normally have picked up! We have been so encouraged to hear from many of you that your children were stretched and challenged in a positive way this summer, even if they didn't complete the five book minimum.

So to everyone who participated: THANK YOU!
