If you're seeking a wholesome literature course, but can't purchase books with religious content, Mosdos Literature may be the course you are looking for. These courses offer anthologies that include short stories, novellas, nonfiction, poetry, drama, and (in the last two levels) even full novels. These readings are from both classic and modern works, and focus on topics like care of others, taking care of the environment, and the value of persistence. While doing this, they also present literary elements like plot, character, setting, and theme.
Basic Mosdos Literature sets usually include three pieces: the textbook, a two-volume teacher's guide, and a workbook. The current retail price for these sets is $161-166 (as of August 2024). Separate workbooks can be ordered from ChristianBook or RainbowResource for $24. Additionally, test master CDs (or digital) can also be obtained, though these are probably unnecessary for home schooling families. The current new textbook prices are $62 each, and the Teacher's Edtions are $80.
