The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent shape, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. "A small miracle of courtesy, naiveté, good will, earnestness and aplomb" is what the New York Times called Paddington, that most endearing bear from darkest Peru.

In this new book about him, Paddington is still living with the Brown family in London and still filling their lives with near disasters that somehow manage to end up as almost triumphs. There is the time Paddington sets out to redecorate his room and imprisons himself in an indescribable chaos of paint and wallpaper, but at least he saves Mr. Brown the trouble of doing the job himself. Or the time he turns detective only to succeed in bagging a London policeman. With Paddington around, the traditional Guy Fawkes Day celebration takes on far more excitement than the usual fireworks. And when Paddington sets out to do his Christmas shop- ping, and ends up in a display window, nothing less than the entire department store is thrown into confusion.

But his Christmas surprise for the Browns is more than recompense for the daily strain of coping with his good intentions. And as for Paddington himself it had been a big day and he was on his way to bed: "Honestly!" Mrs. Bird exclaimed, "What does that bear look like? A paper hat about ten sizes too big on his head Mr. Gruber's scrapbook in one paw—and a plate of Christmas pudding in the other!" "I don't care what he looks like," said Mrs. Brown, "so long as he stays that way. The place wouldn't be the same without him."

The stories in the second book in the series are:

  1. A Family Group – Paddington takes a family photo of the Browns.
  2. A Spot of Decorating – Paddington tries to help Mr Brown by decorating his room whilst the family are out.
  3. Paddington Turns Detective – Paddington investigates the disappearance of Mr Brown's prize marrow.
  4. Paddington and the Bonfire – The Browns hold a bonfire party at No. 32 Windsor Gardens.
  5. Trouble at No.32 – Paddington catches a nasty chill when a winter prank goes disastrously wrong.
  6. Paddington and the Christmas Shopping – Paddington buys presents for the Brown family.
  7. Christmas – Paddington enjoys his first Christmas with the Browns
