Mike Fink

Mike Fink may be short, but he’s tough. From beating boys twice his age, joining a group of acrobatic frogs, becoming the best sharp-shooter in the county, and plowing the fields in place of his mother’s dead ox, Mike Fink rises to every challenge with his trademark holler of ‘Cock-a-doodle-doo!’. But what Mike Fink really wants is to become a keelboatman, and sail the endless western rivers with the rowdiest and toughest.

It isn’t going to be easy. Mike takes on Jack Carpenter, king of the keelboatmen, who sends him hurtling all the way over to the Rocky Mountains. Undaunted, Mike Fink gets in shape by wrestling the local grizzly bears. Soon, Mike’s back and ready to beat Jack Carpenter, and wins not only the red feather off his hat, but the title of King of the Keelboatmen.
