Mary Ann Fraser

Mary Ann Fraser

The author and illustrator of many acclaimed picture books for children, including The Ten Mile Day, Mary Ann Fraser has received several awards for her contributions to children's literature. These include a School Library Journal Best Book of the Year, a Book Links Book of the Year, and an International Reading Association Young Reader's Choice Award.

From the time that she was a child, Fraser loved animals, and features many of them in her stories. History is her other big inspiration: though she didn't particularly enjoy history as a child, she has "since discovered just how much adventure, mystery, and amazing people can be found in the past if we go looking for it." In addition to writing and illustrating, Mary Ann is a founding member of the Children's Author's Network, as well as a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. She conducts "school and library presentations, teacher in-service workshops, and has taught writing and illustrating children's books." She resides in Simi Valley, California, with her family.
