Margaret Bloy Graham

Graham was born in Toronto, Canada, to parents who were both in the medical field. Graham chose a different career and worked as a draftsman artist. In the 1940's she began illustrating books and in 1951 she illustrated her first children's picture book. The following year she earned a Caldecott Honor for All Falling Down, a book written by her first husband, Gene Zion. The following year she again won a Caldecott Honor for The Storm Book written by Charlotte Zolotow.

Collaborating with Zion, Graham illustrated a series of books about Harry the dog. These books gained her much recognition for her portrayals of the animals, giving them each a unique personality. A prolific artist, Graham had 24 titles published in 29 years, from 1947-1974.
