Confessional Lutherans, that is, those who hold fully to the Confessions of the Lutheran Church as contained in the Book of Concord of 1580, have always been eager both to retain and to pass on "the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints" (Jude 3). In his Small Catechism, Dr. Martin Luther provided a simple summary of the common Christian (i.e., catholic) faith. This book includes a new translation of Luther's Enchiridion, originally in German. Through 785 questions and answers, composed to reflect the Word-and-Sacrament emphasis of the Lutheran Confessions, the reader is guided through the main teachings of Christianity according to the six chief parts of the Catechism: the Ten Commandments, the Creed, the Lord's Prayer, Holy Baptism, the Ministry of the Keys, and the Sacrament of the Altar.
Scripture used is NKJ unless otherwise noted.
