Larry Christenson

Born on March 10, 1928, Larry Christenson is the author of a number of books and articles on family life and spiritual renewal. His bestseller, The Christian Life has sold more than two million copies and been translated into over a dozen languages. He graduated from St. Olaf College and Luther Theological Seminary, both in Minnesota, and was ordained a minister of the American Lutheran Church in 1960. He served as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, San Pedro, California for twenty-two years. He married his wife, Nordis Evenson, on December 18,1952. They both have traveled extensively in the United States and overseas, speaking at family life conferences, in colleges and seminaries, and in congregations on the renewal of family and congregational life. From 1983, he served as Director of the International Lutheran Renewal Center, in St. Paul, Minnesota, retiring in 1995. He has also developed a software program, QwikMacro, for writers and editors. Throughout retirement, he and Nordis continued to speak and write about family life and spiritual renewal.

A disciplined man, Christenson had memorized the entire book of Ephesians, which he used as he prayed during his daily walks. It was icy when he went out for what would be his final prayer walk on Dec. 21. The fall left him hospitalized and in a coma before his death five days later, on December 26th.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, three sons, one daughter, 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
