Grandson of the last great chief, Koom was one of the last handful of Tillamook Indians living on Tillamook Bay just outside of Garibaldi in "Squaw Town." Not comfortable in the turn-of-the-century white man's world of his father's people, but no longer able to stay in the secure circle of his mother's people, Koom found himself facing the coming winter living off the land. Koom's companions include a dog, a bear cub and a mysterious stranger he met in the woods.
