King's Stilts

King's Stilts

by Dr. Seuss
Publisher: Random House
Hardcover, 44 pages
Price: $16.99

When King Birtram of the Kingdom of Binn worked, he really WORKED, guarding his peninsular kingdom from the sea by caring for the mighty Dike Trees and keeping his Patrol Cats content and disciplined in order to defend the tasty roots of the trees from the greedy Nizzard birds. And when he played, he put his heart into it, delightedly racing around his kingdom on his tall, flashing, red stilts. But one of his courtiers thinks this play unbecoming for a king and hatches a plot to steal the stilts.

To the kingdom's dismay, the king without play loses heart for his work: the cats become lazy, the Nizzards bold; and the land is threatened with flooding.

Only one honest lad knows the secret of the burglary and it will take courage, ingenuity and perseverance to put everything right. Can he restore the King's stilts in time?

I like this book because the boy buried the king's stilts. I also like it because the bad guy got punished.
