In 1755, a young African boy was kidnapped, hidden in an enormous sack, and carried off into slavery. So began a series of journeys that would take him halfway around the world—and a struggle for freedom that would make him famous.
Later, when he wrote his autobiography, it became a best-seller. He described for the world the evils of slavery—and in doing so, helped to end it.
The boy's name was Olaudah Equiano. This is his story.
