Born in Adelaide, Australia, Vivas enjoyed drawing as a young child. She grew up and studied interior design at the National Art School in Sydney before changing direction and displaying her artistic ability through film animation. Then Vivas married her husband, and the couple lived in Spain where Vivas had a daughter and painted people at local food markets. Moving back to Australia, Vivas exhibited her artwork and was approached by an author looking for an illustrator. This connection led to Vivas's first illustrated children's book The Tram to Bondi Beach. Later Vivas wrote and illustrated The Nativity. Yet, most often, she creates illustrations for other authors, which have led to many popular, award-winning children's stories. Vivas continues to illustrate from her home in Australia.
