Griffin holds degrees in psychology and special education. She's taught school, been an administrator, and served as the U.S. Department of Education's director of the Teacher Centers Program. Through her work as president of A Better Chance, Inc., Griffin has helped many colored youth prepare for their futures by attending college preparatory schools. Griffin is also known for writing the Phoebe the Spy series.
