Born in 1586 in Deventer, Netherlands, Revius studied theology and became a Dutch Reformed church minister. He supported Calvinism, and as an author he helped translate the Dutch Bible, penned a play, and wrote poetry. For his sonnets as much as for his theology, Revius has been remembered.
