The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent condition, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

When white men first landed on American shores, the Indians were surprised, curious, and, in the beginning, quite willing to be friendly. Then more and more of the strangers took over more and more of the hunting grounds. They wanted Indians to follows their laws and their religion. The red men realized that they must fight back if these newcomers were not to take over everything.

These short, easy-to-read stories of Squanto, Powhatan, Massasoit, Philip, Tammany, Pontiac, Joseph Brant, Sacajawea, Tecumseh, Black Hawk, Sequoya, and Crazy Horse relate some of the things that happened in the steady push by the white man to the West. All portray proud, courageous Indians eager to preserve the way of life that had always been theirs.

The Indians and the Strangers is a meaningful volume for a young audience.
