Thomson, the well-known illustrator of books by Jane Austen, was born in Ireland in 1860. He later moved to London in 1883, pursuing his interest in art. Before passing away in 1920, Thomson became quite famous for his illustrations in George Eliot's
Silas Marner and other popular fiction works in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Thomas also illustrated a nonfiction series of English guide books.
