A Canadian, Ross was born on July 24, 1945. Fascinated with astronomy at age seven, he ventured to the library to understand why stars are hot. This led to a lifetime of study in both science and religion. By age 17 Ross served as the director of observations for Vancouver's Royal Astronomical Society, the youngest person to ever hold this position.
Thoroughly educated in science, Ross earned a bachelor's degree in physics from the University of British Columbia, a master's degree in astronomy, and a PhD in astronomy, both from the University of Toronto. His postdoctoral studies on quasars and galaxies Ross did at Caltech in the United States. Along with his scientific studies Ross perused religions and found to his surprise that science validates the
Bible as God's Word. Ross determined that it was his mission in life to spread his findings and to challenge people to understand for themselves why they believe what they do. To that end he and his wife Kathy founded Reasons to Believe ministry in 1986. Ross hosts a radio webcast broadcast weekly, authors books and articles about creationist apologetics, and travels widely to speak to a variety of audiences. When at home in California, Ross spends time with his family and their pets.
