Students and families:

This "Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary" is my favorite one-volume Bible resource. The dates are correct (birth of Abraham 2166 BC, Exodus 1446 BC, etc)! This dictionary explains liberal dating theories, for example, a late Exodus (1250 BC) and multiple Isaiahs (yes, the liberal theory is three Isaiahs), then it explains why a traditional date works best (Exodus 1446 BC, and one Isaiah).

I suggest this volume for both my New and Old Testament classes as a lifetime resource. The only "failures" noted thus far are the entries for "Leviathon" and "Behemoth" (typical crocodile and hippo suggestions).
