The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent shape, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

Heidi is five when she is sent to live with her grandfather in his lonely hut high in the Alps. She quickly grows to love her carefree life with him in the mountain air, and the old man comes to love her too. They are both unhappy when Heidi is sent away again, to a family in town, but she soon manages to get home to the Alps—and to share her happiness with her new friends.

FIRST TWO PARAGRAPHS:

From the pleasant old town of Mayenfeld, a path leads through green meadows all dappled with the shade of spreading trees, to the base of the mountains which gaze down from majestic heights upon the little valley

Then the footpath takes a sharper ascent, and the wayfarer finds himself treading the short, course, furze of the heath, while the pungent scent of mountain herbs begins to steal up from the earth, for now begins the long rise, steep and unswerving, into the alps.
