After having received his bachelor's degree in English literature from Western Washington University, Thomas traveled to Regent College in Vancouver, B.C. to study under Dr. J.I. Packer and to earn his master's degree in systemic theology. After working as a campus pastor, Thomas joined the faculty at Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon where he has also been awarded an honorary doctor of divinity degree.
Teaching, preaching, and writing, Thomas divides his time with work and family. He lives in Bellingham, Washington and has over the years published numerous books. Thomas is changing the way Christians look at marriage and parenting. The author of Sacred Marriage, Sacred Parenting, Sacred Pathways, Authentic Faith, and hundreds of articles for Christian magazines, Thomas is also the founder and director of the small ministry called the Center for Evangelical Spirituality where he emphasizes church history, its traditions, and the classics. By looking backward, Thomas believes we can better understand a truer way forward. He would like to see more of an active attempt to reach God and the pursuit of humility in biblical study. For this reason he became an author and has published over 100 articles. When he isn't writing or preaching, Thomas speaks at gatherings and conventions nationwide. He has spoken across the United States, in four different countries, and on numerous national television and radio programs, including Focus on the Family and Family Life Today.
