Frank Aretas Haskell was an officer in the American Civil War and writer of a detailed account from his experience in the battle of Gettysburg. Haskell was born July 13, 1828, in Tunbridge, Vermont. He was a graduate of Dartmouth College, and studied law before his commission has a first lieutenant for the Union army upon the birth of the Civil War. Haskell's involvement at Gettysburg resulted in a written description to his brother; although it was meant for his brother's confidence only, the account was eventually published as The Battle of Gettysburg in 1898. It is counted as a Civil War classic. Haskell was killed on June 3, 1864, while leading a charge in the battle of Cold Harbor.
