Frances Temple

Born on August 15, 1945 in Washington, D.C., Temple spent her first years in Virginia before moving to France and then to Vietnam.  Her father worked for the diplomatic service, enabling Temple to see and grow to understand more of the world.  After high school in Vietnam, she returned to the United States to attend Wellesley College for two years.  More schooling wasn't what Temple sought at the time, so she volunteered for the Peace Corps and traveled to Sierra Leone to help midwives.

With her deeper appreciation and compassion for life, Temple eventually turned to teaching primary education.  She taught at Children's Hours School in Geneva, New York, encouraging her young children to write and think for themselves.  When her students complained that she never finished her own writing assignments, Temple felt compelled to prove otherwise.  This started her on an award-winning writing career with books such as Taste of Salt and Tonight, By Sea.  Unfortunately, her life was short, and Temple passed away on July 5, 1995 at fifty years old.
