The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent condition, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. On June 15, 1846, twenty-four Americans raised La Bandera del Oso—The Flag of the Dreadful Bear—over Sonoma and proclaimed the Republic of California, a free and independent state.

This is the saga of the 1837-1846 events on California's North Frontier that influenced the capture of Sonoma and the invention of California's state flag. All of the men—Captain Fremont and General Vallejo, Thomas Larkin and William Todd—and their roles in these events are portrayed vividly in this pioneer history.
