Death on the Nile

Death on the Nile

A Hercule Poirot Mystery #17
by Agatha Christie
Publisher: HarperCollins
Trade Paperback, 352 pages
Price: $16.99

It would have been the perfect crime—if Hercule Poirot had not been aboard.

Heiress Lynnet Doyle and her new husband Simon are being stalked by Simon's former lover, Jackie. In an effort to get away from her they board a cruise ship up the Nile river. On board is their accquaintance detective Hercule Poirot, who also happens to know Jackie—who is also on board.

Tensions rise as the cruise turns out to be filled with people who know Lynnet—including several who would like her dead. When Lynnet is discovered with a bullet in her head, Hercule Poirot must discover who did it before the killer strikes again.

This is one of the most clever Agatha Christie mysteries. The whole puzzle hinges on a rock hard alibi and the confusing events of a single night. There are a few nearly undetectable little details that don't add up, and if you're paying enough attention you might, might just figure it out before the reveal. Or you can simply sit back and enjoy as Agatha Christie weaves her suspenseful tale of crime and passion up the Nile river.

Lauren Shearer writes words for fun and profit. She also makes films, but everyone knows you can't make a profit doing that. Her other hobby is consistently volunteering way too much of her time. You can read more of her reviews here.
