Originally published in 1871, this edition is undated. The story is Victorian in tone, about a woman whose marriage is almost ruined by her jealousy, which also leads to her being accused of murder. It ends on a cliff-hanger and the story is continued in the book Tried for Her Life.
In this volume the story is followed by a short story called "A Literary Wife" about a woman who, after her husband loses his job, is able to help support her family by resuming her career of writing stories.
