The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent condition, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

The buffalo that once ranged the northern plains determined the lives of the Crow Indians. Because the great herds moved from place to place in search of grass, the Crow were wanderers. Because the buffalo's flesh was their staff of life, the Crow did no farming; they were hunters. When horses were introduced into their lands, the Crow became magnificent riders, for on horseback they could conduct their great hunts far more successfully. The buffalo also provided their clothing and tent covering, their implements and utensils, string and thread, and even their fuel.

Miss Bleeker vividly describes how the hunts were organized and how the new camps were set up. She also tells about the training and the games of the boys and girls, the Crow dress, customs, and legends, and the tribe's history up to the present day. This is the fifth book in her excellent series on different North American Indian tribes.
