Venema was born to parents Richard and Carrie on April 25, 1954, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He later earned his B.A. from Dordt College, his M. Div from Calvin Theological Seminary, and his Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary. After pastoring for six years in California and then in Illinois, he relocated to Mid-America Reformed Seminary where he teaches systemic theology courses. President of the Seminary, an elder in his church, a preacher, a speaker, and an author, Venema stays busy. His published books include
