Designed to reinforce math and problem-solving skills, Core Skills: Math offers worksheets for children to practice concepts they have already encountered. Each page contains grade-appropriate problems and activities that develop the computation, problem-solving, and reasoning skills vital to success in mathematics. The ten books offer your child the opportunity to polish his or her math skills. Since the books lack explanation, they won't work as stand-alone curriculum, but they can be helpful for review or test preparation. Answers are included in the back of each book.
Six smaller Math Skills Workbooks offer more explanation and more focused work in specific areas including whole numbers, fractions and percents. Intended for grades 4-6, they provide reinforcement of key concepts found in the rest of the series. (These are similar to the "Key-To" math workbooks, but not as clear. The advantage is that they cover a topic in one book.) For grades 1-3, the Head for Home series provides a similar framework for understanding the basic operations of arithmetic, time, and money.
Review by C. Hollis Crossman
C. Hollis Crossman used to be a child. Now he is a husband and father, teaches adult Sunday school in his Presbyterian congregation, and likes weird stuff. He might be a mythical creature, but he's definitely not a centaur.Read more of his reviews here.
