Charlotte Mason Language Arts

Language arts according to the Charlotte Mason method is inherently practical (no surprise.) For Charlotte Mason advocates, the purpose of language arts is, simply, better communication. Thus the definition of "language arts" extends to speaking well, listening well, reading well, and writing well, alongside traditional endeavors such as the simple mechanics of language. Children who can speak fluently already know a lot about language, and language arts should help them develop what they already know.
