Celebrate Thanksgiving is a basic unit study designed to help kids understand more about the origins and purpose of the annual Thanksgiving celebration in our country. Fifteen lessons with plenty of supplemental crafts and activities are to be completed in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving Day; author Charlene Notgrass provides three possible schedules to be completed in 3-6 weeks. Lessons can be completed in 30 minutes to an hour including crafts.
Each lesson has some text to read, written exercises (answers included), and crafts. You'll need a copy for each child as this is a consumable worktext. Students also construct a Thanksgiving scrapbook and an heirloom tablecloth to be used during Thanksgiving dinner. Students learn about Thanksgiving history, traditions and the holiday's true religious significance. You could put your normal curriculum on hold for awhile as you complete this text, but it can just as easily be used as a supplement.
