Reeder grew up in Washington D.C. loving to read. Though she helped on the school newspapers while in junior high until she graduated from The American University, she didn't consider being a full-time writer. After helping a neighbor boy learn how to read, Reeder wanted to be a teacher, and that is the path she took, earning her masters of education from her alma mater.
Teaching and raising a family took up much of her time, but when Reeder's husband considered writing about Shenandoah National Park, she agreed to co-author a book. One nonfiction book for adults turned into three books, and Reeder found she enjoyed the writing experience. Her favorite part was to research. Reeder decided to give up teaching and become an author, enabling her to have more time to travel and gather information for her historical novels. Many of her books center around the Civil War or the Blue Ridge Mountains, and perhaps most recognized is her award-winning story
Shades of Gray. Today, Reeder continues to read, write, and explore the great outdoors.
