Brother Andrew

Known popularly as "God's Smuggler", Brother Andrew was born Andrew van der Bijl in Sint Pancras, the Netherlands, in 1928. He and his six siblings were the children of a poor blacksmith. As a young soldier, Andrew converted to Christianity, and from that time worked tirelessly to encourage Christians in Communist countries. He first visited Poland in 1955, using membership in a Communist youth group to remain there unsuspected. From their he traveled through the Soviet Union and China, smuggling Bibles and Christian literature, things that were forbidden in those countries. Now known as 'Brother Andrew', he has written several books, including God's Smuggler (specifically about ministry behind the Iron Curtain) and Light Force, which concerns Arab Christians in the Middle East. He is also the founder of Open Doors, an organization that distributes Bibles, literature, and broadcasting to Christians worldwide in countries that they organization considers oppressed.

Brother Andrew continues preaching, speaking, and traveling all over the world with his passion for the underground church.
