Brenda Runkle earned her bachelor's degree in education from the University of Oklahoma in 1963, and years later she received her master's degree in education administration from Central State University. Well-educated in history and government as well, Runkle worked as a teacher consultant as part of the Oklahoma Alliance for Geography Educators sponsored by National Geographic Society. After teaching for 18 years at the middle school level, Runkle began writing her own books on geography. She had tremendous support and encouragement in her projects from John Saxon, both her colleague and mentor. Forming Runkle Publishers, Runkle has helped numerous students truly grasp and understand about mapping and geography by using a variety of learning styles.
