Traveling to Boswarlos, Newfoundland as a youthful Methodist minister, Wallace proceeded to inspire and relate to boys around him. He wrote about a boy's world with understanding and compassion. Whether playing football or teaching Sunday school, Wallace involved himself in the community. After leaving and then returning to Bowarlos in the 1930s, Wallace constructed a cabin and continued penning his books about heroism. His true stories allowed readers to glimpse the lives of those who overcame obstacles and handicaps to be rewarded with triumph. Such a work is called
Boys of Grit Who Became Men of Honour. Another book by Wallace,
Mothers of Famous Men, demonstrated how love and direction shaped boys to become honorable men. Many of Wallace's books are still in print today, affecting the lives of their readers.
