The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent shape, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

This is a story within a story. Penny, 10 years old, was bored with her visit to her grandfather's Indiana farm until her Aunt Millie began telling her the story of how the farm got its name.

The Bartletts were pretty discouraged. They had come from Boston as pioneers to Indiana.  The drought killed the corn. The cow was killed. The baby died. No one even remembered Ada's 10th birthday. And then Johnny Appleseed came by. He gave Ada a birthday present and inspired the whole family with courage to go on.
