Alistair Hannay is a translator and scholar on the works of the Danish existentialist philosopher Soren Kierkegaard. Hannay was born in 1932 in Plymouth, England to a Scottish family. Among Kierkegaard's works, he has translated
Sickness Unto Death, Fear and Trembling, and
Either/Or, and has put forth many of his own books concerning the philosopher, such as
The Cambridge Companion to Kierkegaard and
Kierkegaard: A Biography. Hannay is also the author of a body of essays. He has the honor of Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at the University of Oslo, as well as Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Hannay resides in Norway.
