20th Century Exploration

While the Age of Exploration and the 18th & 19th centuries certainly expanded the usable areas of our world, the 20th century may arguably be called the most interesting era of exploration the human race has ever experienced. It was in this century that we were able to stretch our frontiers into the harshest areas of the globe—the frigid arctic and the depths of the sea—while expanding our reach into the deeps of the Amazon and the subcontinent of Africa. Technology enabled us to really begin reaching for the heavens, broaching the atmosphere and first landing men on the moon. In contrast, some daring men decided to eschew that same technology to explore the past, using old methods to recreate epic voyages in an attempt to understand how ancients and medievals made their first forays into the unknown.
