The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent condition, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

Much of the timelines of an era is lost on young students of history when books focus on a major event as though it happened in isolation. In Year of the Pilgrims, 1620, Genevieve Foster attempts to correct the perspective. She has been most successful with her approach—horizontal history—in books for older boys and girls. In this book for younger readers she relates events of the Pilgrims—in Holland and later in America—with events in Scotland, China, Japan, India and Africa. She touches on art, literature and medicine, as well as on discoveries that shaped nations and world politics—in short, whatever was important to the times. With its numerous maps, two-color illustrations and simplified index of people and places, 1620 provides an excellent beginning history.
