World & U.S. Atlases

Unless you're the Ultimate Homebody with absolutely no interest in the world beyond your front door, a good atlas is more than likely to hold a certain romance or imaginative power over you. Atlases contain worlds, and unless you're very well-traveled, most of those worlds will be otherwise unknown. Whether you've traveled or not, it's hard not to get the wanderlust once you've spent an hour or two staring at mountain ranges, rivers, and cities in foreign lands.

What does a good atlas include? Detailed maps, for one. This might seem obvious, but plenty of books calling themselves atlases are content to present no more than a few very basic maps that help no one understand anything about anywhere.

Review by C. Hollis Crossman
C. Hollis Crossman used to be a child. Now he is a husband and father, teaches adult Sunday school in his Presbyterian congregation, and likes weird stuff. He might be a mythical creature, but he's definitely not a centaur.Read more of his reviews here.
