Water has a way of changing . . . And Tony, with his new sled, is witness to the changes both inside and outside his house in the hills. As day breaks, Tony is anxiously awaiting snow. He sees moisture forming clouds in the sky and fogging up his kitchen window. But the morning's warm temperatures bring only rain. As temperatures drop during the night, ice crystals grow in the clouds and cling to his upstairs window. Tony awakes to find a new day that's just cold enough for snowflakes, sledding, and smiles.

Lisa Westberg Peters describes for children the phase changes of water in a lucid parallel text. Ted Rand's detailed and wonderfully textured illustrations add understanding to a lesson on the cyclical ways of water.
