If you've ever been asked how much evidence it will take for you to reject creationism and accept evolutionary theory, you may have walked away wondering how much evidence for either position there could really be. That's a natural thing to wonder about—no one was actually present when the universe began, and you can't exactly simulate millions or even hundreds of years in a lab.

Does that mean there's no evidence? It does if evidence is considered to be infallible proof. But if evidence is simply physical data supporting one's position, then of course there's evidence. And creationists actually have better evidence than their evolutionistic counterparts: modern contemporary geological catastrophes that replicate in a short time what evolutionary theory posits could only transpire over millions of years.

Why is this important? If evolutionists are right, then things like stratification, coal deposits, and certain geological formations could only form given millions of years to do so. The logical conclusion, then, is that the earth has been around for a very long time, and any fossils we find in lower strata (for instance) could only be from epochs in the distant past.

But if creationists are right, the world is potentially much younger than evolutionists claim, and there's plenty of evidence to suggest a cataclysmic event at the beginning of history in the form of a global flood. These are the claims investigated inThe Flood Geology DVD Series, in which real scientists look at recent phenomena to uncover strong evidence for creationist claims.

Dr. Steve Austin and meteorologist Michael Oard look at Mount St. Helens, the Great Ice Age, and the Great Missoula Flood to find clues to the way geologic catastrophes can foment huge change to earth formations in short periods of time. The series is shot and edited by respected videographer Kyle Justice, and filmed on location at each site.

These aren't what many have come to expect from creationist materials. There's no propaganda here, the narrators are real scientists with degrees beyond the bachelor's level (Austin has a Ph.D. from Penn State), and they engage the real empirical data with precision and accuracy. They simply don't approach the data with atheistic presuppositions.

If you're looking for edge-of-your-seat entertainment you probably won't find it here, though these videos are very much like scientific detective stories without gunfights or dames. Austin and Oard are definitely scientists, and sometimes their use of professional terminology is difficult to follow. Also, they aren't terribly animated.

But what they have to say, as well as the impressive cinematography, should sell the DVDs without the need for special effects or thrilling suspense. If you're looking for evidence for the creationist perspective in a world that largely rejects it out of hand, you'll find it here, expertly presented and explained. These films would make excellent viewing for a Sunday school class, a high school youth group, or simply a family Friday night at home.
