Steven Kellogg

Steven Kellogg

On October 26, 1941, Kellogg was born in Norwalk, Connecticut, the first of three children. Early on, he loved to draw and tell stories. His grandmother took him for walks around their home and explained to him about the animals and plants. Her attention to detail stuck with Kellogg and influenced his own illustrating. Kellogg's talents earned him a scholarship to Rhode Island School of Design from where he graduated before doing graduate work at American University in Washington D. C. and teaching etching there.

From teaching, Kellogg ventured into married life and helped raise six stepchildren. His life took another dramatic turn when he began submitting his stories to book publishers and they began accepting them. In the interim, he illustrated books for other authors. From his old farm house at Stoney Brook, Connecticut, Kellogg penned numerous books and gave them drawings full of action, including Pinkerton the Great Dane and the re-adaptations of American legends, including Paul Bunyan: A Tall Tale. Either author, illustrator, or both to over one hundred books, Kellogg also serves as the vice-president of the National Children's Book and Literacy Alliance which promotes literacy, literature, and libraries. Much awarded, Kellogg earned the Regina Medal for contributing to children's literature. Kellogg continues making reading fun for children and their adults.
