Roger Lea MacBride

Born on August 6, 1929, MacBride later studied at Harvard University before being elected to the Vermont legislature as a Republican. Disgruntling some people, MacBride voted Libertarian and became the Libertarian presidential candidate in 1976. His bid unsuccessful, MacBride tried to start a news magazine, which failed, and then he returned to the Republican party. His contribution to the world of literature is perhaps where MacBride's name is most recognized, though.

MacBride claimed to be the adopted grandson of Rose Wilder Lane, daughter of Laura Ingalls Wilder, and thus took over the Ingalls-Wilder literary estate. He authored three more Little House books, started the Rocky Ridge Years series about Rose, and co-produced the Little House on the Prairie television series. A lawyer, political figure, author, and television producer, MacBride passed away on March 5, 1995. Soon after his demise, a controversy brewed regarding who legally held the rights of the Ingalls-Wilder estate, MacBride's heirs or the Laura Ingalls Wilder Library. A settled court case left the rights with MacBride's family.
