Born in 1928, Peck, the youngest of seven children, was the fortunate one to be able to attend school. His teacher, Miss Kelly, encouraged all of her students to believe in themselves and taught them the importance of learning. Not everyone in his community, much less in his family, could read, so books became very important to Peck. Later, Peck served in Europe in World War II, then married a librarian, and began his own writing career. Peck has dedicated several books to the remarkable teacher who contributed to his upbringing and education. Most of his stories portray rural Vermont and reflect his adventures as a boy. One such book is A Day No Pigs Would Die. Peck writes poetry, how-to books for writers, and adult novels. He lives in Florida.
